Ordinary people think merely of spending time: Great people think of using it. –
Tell me how you use your spare time and how you spend your money, and I will tell you where and what you will be ten years from now. – Napoleon Hill
It is amazing how many people use the phrase: “I just don’t have the time to work on my business. I am just so busy I don’t even have time for myself.” My question is; If you aren’t working on your business, Who Is? What are you doing that takes so much of your time? One exercise that helps you manage your time is to track everything you do for a week and assign a value to the task. Then stop doing the tasks that do not provide value to you. A useful white paper from Vistage is “Doing More With Less” which outlines steps you can take to be a more effective organization.
You only have this second/minute/day one time. When you don’t have time to do what you want to do who is stealing your time? The word “steal” is used on purpose. If someone else is taking your time for something you do not value, then that person is stealing your time.
What tasks are you doing that limit your growth and the growth of your business? As a leader in your business what is the value of your time – $5/10/20/50/100/500/5000/hour? How many tasks are you doing that could be done by someone you hire? Should you hire someone to work on your business (grow/lead) or people to work in your business?
Remember time is the same for all of us; it marches on regardless of what we do. All of us only have 60 seconds per hour, and 24 hours per day. What we don’t know is how many days we have in our lives. What are you doing today, and planning to do tomorrow, to make the most of your valuable time? What do leaders say about time?
If you want to make good use of your time, you’ve got to know what’s most important and then give it all you’ve got. – Lee Iacocca
It’s not enough to be busy, so are the ants. The question is, what are we busy about? – Henry David Thoreau
Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you. – Carl Sandburg
I am definitely going to take a course on time management… just as soon as I can work it into my schedule. – Louis E. Boone
In truth, people can generally make time for what they choose to do; it is not really the time but the will that is lacking. – Sir John Lubbock
Those who make the worse use of their time are the first to complain of its shortness. – Jean De La Bruyere
The great dividing line between success and failure can be expressed in five words: “I did not have time.” – Franklin Field
